Where is God leading you in 2012? a post by Kathy Jerman, CD

2012 - a new year, new beginnings. Where is God leading you this year? How does He want to stretch you this year? How does He want to grow you as a mom, wife, and leader? Please take the time to reflect on these questions and pray about where God is leading you this year. You just might be surprised at what He has in store for you if you will just step out in faith and obey. Remember, God doesn't call the equipped, He equips those He calls!

Is God leading you to share your testimony with your MOPS group or your discussion group or with an individual mom in your group? There just may be a mom out there who would be blessed by hearing your salvation story or hearing a story of how God has worked in your life. I remember being a discussion group leader one year when my coordinator asked me to share how God had worked in my life. I was Scared.To.Death! But I knew God wanted me to do it. I prayed about it and wrote it out and then shared it with my group. He used that experience to teach me to be bold for Jesus and to grow me as a leader.

Is God leading you to start a Bible Study for your MOPS group or discussion group on the off weeks? Maybe some of the moms in your group are hungry for more spiritual topics than what you cover in your meetings. There are tons of great studies out there related to parenting, marriage, discipleship, friendship, etc. Be a blessing and help these moms explore their faith and dig deeper in the Word.

Is God leading you to take on a new role on your steering team? Is your coordinator stepping down after this year? Do you feel led to step up and fill her shoes? Or perhaps shadow your coordinator for a semester or a year to see if it's for you? Are you the hospitality coordinator or creative activities coordinator, but long for a deeper connection with the moms? Maybe being a discussion group leader, where you can mentor and encourage other moms, is for you. Don't be afraid to change things up on your steering team. Just because you start out in one position, doesn't mean you are there for life! Let God use you where you are gifted to serve!

Have you ever considered starting a new MOPS group? Did you know that once your church has chartered one group you can charter as many additional ones as you want for free? Is your current group growing like crazy? Maybe consider adding an evening group to meet the needs of working moms or single moms who can't make it to the morning meetings. Do you have a lot of moms graduating from MOPS in the upcoming years? Consider starting a MOMSnext group. This is a ministry to moms of school-aged kids. It's easier than you think to start one. (For more information on starting a MOMSnext group, click here.)

What about TeenMOPS? In Central NY, we currently have four active groups. One that meets at the Salvation Army, one that meets at a local church (soon to be moving to their local high school), one that meets at a Crisis Pregnancy Center, and one that meets at a Syracuse city High School. The need out there is so great for helping these young moms who have found themselves pregnant and alone. How can you get involved and help minister to and support these girls? In the Albany and Hudson Valley and NYC areas, there are NO TeenMOPS groups yet! Who is ready to step out in faith and see where God leads? The coordinators of the Teen groups in Central NY are all amazing women of God and I know that any of them would be more than willing to chat with you and answer any of your questions about what is involved. Let me know if the Lord is pulling at your heartstrings in this area, and I'd be happy to connect you with one of these leaders!

Is field leadership for you? Maybe you've been a MOPS leader for years and are wondering if God is calling you out. Maybe God is redirecting you within the MOPS ministry and wants you to serve in field leadership. When I was first asked to be a field leader, again I was Scared.To.Death! I felt completely unqualified and unequipped. But it's where He was leading me and I know I needed to be obedient. Today, I am thrilled and grateful that I listened to that call and stepped out of my comfort zone and jumped into field leadership. I love my job as Community Developer and I am blessed and humbled to be serving alongside you all in this amazing ministry. Our Albany, Hudson Valley, and NYC areas in particular are in need of field leaders. Is it for you? Check out the MOPS website for information on field leadership and the ministry description of a Community Coach. I'd be more than happy to talk to you about any of these positions.

So, where is God leading you in 2012? Pray about it and seek godly counsel. Spend time in His word, then obey His calling!
