Legacy Part 5

C - Cultivate

Bring others alongside to help you and grow them. Leaders who have been allowed to walk alongside those in Leadership Essential roles are able to get a realistic view of the role and will feel confident and equipped to lead.

  1. Bring the person in to give exposure to role
  2. Introduce them to key players
  3. Share what you know has helped you to be successful
  4. Assign tasks with identified gifts/talents previously determined. Use personality studies.  A sample personality test is here
  5. Demonstrate shared accountability to the whole team
  6. Understand our level of dependence on other team members
  7. Document developmental activities
Pass the Baton: Maybe you have decided it was time to step out of your leadership position. Maybe you are stepping into another position or maybe you are graduating out of MOPS. There are several things you can do to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Create Standard Operating Procedures: Be careful to work with your church as you are finalizing these procedures. Document these in a notebook to pass on.

  • How do you communicate with the team?
  • How do you communicate with the church?
  • How do you communicate with the moms?
  • What tasks do you perform?
  • What tasks do you do to prepare for meetings?
  • What tasks do you perform when the meeting is over?
  • Are you in charge of collecting any information?
  • How is that stored?
  • Do you make purchases?
  • Do you receive money ahead of time or are you reimbursed?
  • What do you do with the receipts?
Use Group Management Tools:

  • Go to your GMT dashboard at MOPSguide.org
  • Download the GMT manual for step by step instructions for using the tools. Access this from your dashboard.

Make a Plan for your Departure:

  • As moms we want our children to grow to be responsible adults; likewise, as leaders we want the next leaders to be equipped and prepared to serve. The new leaders will lead differently; the positions will look a little different. The room may be organized differently, the meeting run differently, signs where you don't think they should be, not enough creative activities, too many creative activities. It will not look the same but sometimes we need to step out of the way so God can do amazing things through other people and we can celebrate with them.
