"Dear Mom" (by Sarah Brooks)

Writing a letter seems like such an archaic gesture in these times of social media and advanced technology. But letter writing has always been a favorite of mine. My grandmother and I would write back and forth for years. Now that she's gone, I cherish those letters and read them again and again.

Wouldn't it be great if we could encourage and help other moms with a simple letter? Well you can! Sometimes just writing our thoughts down in a letter can also be cathartic for ourselves. Take a read below of what Sarah Brooks has started and then pass the word to your MOPS groups!

I think this is a fantastic way to reach out to other moms in need!

We all have a story to tell.

An encouraging word is a powerful thing. Sometimes we just need someone to come alongside us and tell us that we are not alone, that what we're feeling is normal, that we'll survive the storm. There is power in community, which is why MOPS is such a valuable resource.

During the 2012 MOPS Convention, God began laying on my heart the idea for a new website. During the general sessions of convention, they had us write love letters (to ourselves, to our family, to a mom in another country, etc.). I began thinking about the possibility of an online "post office" of letters written by moms to moms. The letters are written by women who have personal experience a particular issue (miscarriage, anger, grief, dealing with toddlers, or just motherhood in general).

Here's where I need your help. Would you consider asking moms in your MOPS group to contribute letters? They're nothing fancy. Just simple short letters addressed "Dear Mom." My prayer is that God would use our personal stories to be a blessing and encouragement to a mom we've never met.

The site is http://www.lettertoamom.com and if you have any questions you can e-mail me at LettertoaMom@gmail.com.

I really do appreciate any willingness to help either to write a letter or to help spread the word. I want this to be a ministry to our MOPS moms and it's not possible without you!

God Bless,
Sarah Brooks
