Mustard Seed Faith

(This says it all...from MOPS Leaders Online.)

by Melodi Leih, Regional Developer

I recently received an email from a friend who shared how she was blessed by a couple of short notes I had sent. I had not thought much about it because I enjoy sending notes, words of encouragement to my friends. When I “dismissed it” as no big deal she said, “Oh but it is. It’s the small things that mean so much.”  It was a great reminder for me the smallest things sometimes have the greatest impact.

Matthew 17:20 says, “If you have faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” If you looked at a mustard seed you could barely see it or feel it. It is like trying to look at the very tip of a sharpened pencil. In contrast, a mountain is enormous. How could my faith possibly move something like that? On its own it can’t but by trusting in the One worthy of that faith we are able to do so much. His word promises “Nothing would be impossible.”

I’m reminded of the little boy who offered his lunch of five loaves and two fish to Jesus. He had faith his small offering could be used for something great in the hands of Jesus. He willingly offered what he had, and Jesus used it to feed 5,000 with baskets leftover. There was also a woman who believed if she could just touch the hem of his garment, she would be healed. There are so many stories throughout scripture where the smallest amount of faith was enough to bring great healing and hope. The faith you have is enough. It is enough to extend a welcome to a new mom or provide encouragement to a hurting mom. It is enough to go deeper in relationships, to share the gospel or to boldly step out and start another group. Mustard seed faith is all we need to impact the lives of people.

Are you ready to move some mountains?
