E - Engage
The Vision: MOPS International exists to encourage, equip and develop every mother of preschoolers to realize her potential as a woman, mother and leader in the name of Jesus Christ.
Engaging others in the vision statement keeps them motivated and committed to a longer period of service.
How do you present the opportunity to busy moms of preschoolers in a way that invites them into the mission with you? It's not about just filling the spaces, it's about involving them.
Bill Hybels, in his book The Volunteer Revolution describes it this way:
"You and I get to invite these people to be used by God in ways they never imagined. We have the opportunity to empower them to develop gifts they didn't know they had. We can cheer them on as they courageously assume new levels of Kingdom responsibility that fill their hearts to overflowing, and we get to see the look on their faces when they realize God has used them to touch another human being."
Involving them in our mission should be an exciting thing!
The process - One suggested process looks like this:
- Selection committee
- Ministry descriptions
- Pray and discuss
- Approach - describe mission and position (most people want to be asked, they just won't 'volunteer.')
- Explain - expectations and time commitment
- Ask questions
- Pray
- Follow up
It is better to have the position empty than to have someone serving who isn't gifted for the position or who doesn't agree with the overall mission. Take your time and cover everything in prayer.
Engage by involving members, starting small and forming committees.
